A Performing Arts Academy for Dance

OneMaker Academy is a cutting-edge Performing Arts Academy in the Hills District and is part of the operations and ministry of Pacific Hills Christian School. It is aiming to cultivate a creative and inspiring atmosphere focused on the development of young students in the performing arts locally, nationally and internationally. We are located at Pacific Hills Christian School in a multi-million-dollar facility catering for industry leading educational and performance-based services. Our classes run in beautiful tarkett sprung floor studios as well as two state-of-the-art performance stages, giving each student the ability to learn in a professional industry setting.

We offer a range of dance styles for Early Childhood to Year 12. Our classes offer a positive and a safe learning environment for children to flourish in their aspirations of dance.

Our students have amazing performance opportunities throughout the year. We hold an annual end of year Dance Concert as well as local performances and a Troupe Showcase. Students can give back to the community through dance by performing at local retirement homes and festivals. Dancers who are in our Performance Troupes and Company receive great industry insight by dancing in elite Eisteddfods and attend high level master classes.

At OneMaker Academy, we believe dance is a powerful tool in the shaping of young people. Instilling self-worth, confidence, team spirit and character.

Dance Classes

Tiny Tots

Our Tiny Tot classes run on multiple days so you can choose the class that works best for you! These classes are for our little beginner dancers in Prep and Kindy. The Recreational classes include Jazz, Ballet and Tap spending Term 1 & 2 on ballet and jazz, and introducing tap in Term 3. We make learning dance fun by including interactive songs and games to develop coordination. Our little dancers love coming to class to use their imaginations and make new friends.

Tots

Our Tots class is a step up for Kindy students who have already completed 2 years of our Tiny Tots program. Tots classes will continue to work on ballet, jazz and tap in a class designed to be more challenging but still nurturing. This class is a great preparation for all our Year 1 and up recreational and troupe classes.

Ballet

Ballet is the building block for all other dance forms. Our classes focus on foundational technique and movements that can be used in all genres of dance. This style includes barre, centre and across the floor work. Ballet is structured on strengthening muscles, increasing flexibility, and concentrating on the use of turn out throughout all movement. Classical ballet is a graceful form that instils diligence and a passion for dance.

R.A.D. Ballet is the Royal Academy of Dance Syllabus. This syllabus provides a solid foundation and promotes dedication and discipline. Students taking R.A.D. classes have the option of completing exams once ready.

Commercial Jazz

Commercial Jazz is the leading dance style used in a student’s career. It combines the technical elements of Jazz with a more Street/Hip Hop style choreography seen in most music videos and live concerts.

Contemporary

Contemporary includes a range of floor work, pirouettes, leg extensions and dynamic jumps. It is abstract and interpretive in its choreography, using angular/sharp movement. Classes will also consist of learning the art of choreographing and the skill of improv that can be used in auditions later in student’s careers. This style pushes the creativity of a student to learn how to make new shapes and lines with their movement.

Hip Hop

This style of street dance is full of energy and attitude! Our hip hop classes are guaranteed to boost confidence and skill. Students will learn fundamentals from styles under the hip hop umbrella such as breaking, waacking, house, popping and new style. Our hip hop classes provide students with a fun space to learn new movement and meet friends, while getting a good workout.

Technique Levels 1-4

These technique classes aim to challenge and grow our dancers in important dance techniques, especially jazz. These classes have a large focus on flexibility and strength, as we believe it is important for our dancers to continue developing these skills correctly to avoid injuries. Our jazz classes are structured with centre work, across the floor and choreography. We focus on the fundamental techniques needed to properly do jumps, kicks and turns, aiming to help our students develop their skills readying them for their performance classes.

Tumbling

Tumbling is a mix of acro, gymnastics, tricks and dance! Our students are offered training from Beginner (level 1) – Advanced (Level 4). Our Tumbling classes are full of energy and students get one on one training as well as peer work. Tumbling skills benefit a student’s flexibility and can be incorporated in their other dance styles. Our classes follow the USASF safety guidelines. These classes will build body strength and flexibility to achieve incredible tricks such as forward/backward rolls, cartwheels, aerials and even back-handsprings and tucks!

Lyrical

Lyrical is a fluid form of dance that is an extension of ballet. It focuses on expression and emotion as it relates to the music and lyrics. Students will learn how to use body movement in a creative limitless style by learning how to combine emotions and facial expressions with their dance to tell a story. Classes will also consist of learning the art of choreographing and the skill of improv that can be used in auditions later in a student’s career.

Musical Theatre

Musical Theatre incorporates characterised dance, acting skills and vocal technique to develop performers who desire to be well rounded across a range of skills. The musical theatre class will explore into modern and classic musicals such as Matilda, Aladdin, Singing in the Rain, Sound of Music, The Little Mermaid, Fame, CATS and A Chorus Line just to mention a few. This class is designed to pique student’s interest and love for musical theatre. Within the performance pieces worked on in class, the use of props and characterisation is of high importance so the message of the piece can be expressed to the audience. By the end of the year, students should have gained an appreciation and understanding of musicals and skills needed for their performing arts endeavours.

JFH

JFH stands for Jazz, Funk and Hip Hop. This blended style is one of the leading dance styles used in today’s professional dance industry. JFH classes are fun and upbeat with routines choreographed to the latest popular music hits. Students learn a mix of sharp and dynamic movements, as well as learning basic grooves found within the genre of hip hop. JFH is the perfect class for anyone looking for something exciting and current.

Tap

Tap Technique class is a rhythmic explosion of different sounds and beats. Within our tap class, students are fostered to develop their own unique tapping style through drawing inspiration from the classics such as Bob Fosse, Gene Kelly or through Broadway or Theatrical Tap examples. Tap develops coordination and timing skills, which are valuable in any style of dance or music. The theoretical side of tap is also of high importance in this class as when students have learned the fundamentals, they then can create new sounds to modern music with the skills they have mastered.

Stretch & Strength

Our stretch & strength classes offer conditioning based exercises to help dancers progress at a faster pace by building strength, flexibility and coordination in extension to their technique classes. They also learn injury prevention for longevity as a dancer.
